Albin Egger-Lienz was born in Striebach in Lienz.
The genre, landscape and portrait painter was first an apprentice to his father. From 1884 to 1893 Albin Egger-Lienz studied at the Munich Academy under Karl Raupp, Gabriel Hackl and Wilhelm Lindenschmitt. In 1899 Albin Egger-Lienz moved to Vienna and in 1911/12 he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Weimar. Afterwards moved to the South Tyrol and mainly worked in St Justina near Bolzano.
The artist mainly depicted scenes showing the simple, paltry life of peasants. World War I strongly influecned the painter as regards motifves, later he returned to his initial naturalism. In 1926 the artist died in St. Justina in Bozen.
