Willy Eisenschitz was born in 1889 in Vienna.
Son of a family of lawyers, Willy Eisenschitz studied from 1910 on at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Two years later, he continued his studies at the Académie de la Grand Chaumière in Paris. Throughout his life he was fascinated by the French impressionists, Gauguin and Cezanne. In 1913 he married his french fellow student Claire Bertrand. In 1914 for the first time he participated in an exhibition at the Vienna Secession.
Willy Eisenschitz moved to Luzern in 1917 but returned to Vienna after World War I. Later, in 1920, he settled in Paris again. He spent the summer of 1921 in the Provence and moved to the department of Drôme in 1925. Both landscapes are recurrent motives in his paintings. In 1927 the artist once again moved: this time he settled near Toulon. After his wife's death in 1969 Willy Eisenschitz returned to Paris for good and worked there until the end of his life.
The painter travelled to Spain, Ibiza and to the Sudan. He was a member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and became a French citizen in 1935. The artist participated in numerous exhibitions in France, England and overseas. His paintings were bought by famous museums. Willy Eisenschitz
received the golden medal at the world exhibition in Paris.
